The purpose of this project was to install ground stabilisation and foundation upgrades to tower XQ31 on the Stalybridge to Stuart Street 132 kV double circuit overhead line. The tower is an L3 D30 M12 supporting single ACSR Zebra phase conductors and single ACSR Lynx earthwire. Steep ground between the tower and the adjacent River Medlock has recently slipped, which if exacerbated has the potential to impact on the structural stability of the tower.
The work included the following:
- Design and construction of secant piled walling between tower XQ31 and the bank face.
- Design and installation of tower compression leg strengthening piles
- Installation of pile caps/capping beams to two tower compression legs
- Design and installation of tie backs/dead men anchors from the secant piled wall and foundation capping beam.
